Physical Description Edit
The Nafari, native to the oceanic planet of Hydropolis, is a cold blooded creature that swims the warm waters that cover the planet. Nafaris are aqua in color and are known for their complex sets of wings. The largest pair of wings are covered in shimmering scales, while the other two are smaller in size and are nearly paper thin. Their wings range in color from deep indigo to soft green. Nafaris can grow to be around 3 feet long in body length not including their 1-2 foot long tentacles attached at the waist. These mammals grow be 35-55 pounds. While Nafaris are without legs, they have two arm-like appendages on either side of their torso, that wield webbed hands. Nafaris have four fingers and an opposable thumb on each hand. A dorsal fin runs from the top of their head to the nape of their neck followed by gills symmetrically set on either side of their neck.
Nafaris are extremely smart creatures. They have learned how to build weapons to fend off the spiked octopus and black dragons that hunt them. Spears, knives, and arrowheads are common among the Nafari population. However, Nafaris are not aggressive unless provoked, and are known to show kind empathetic behavior towards other animals and their environment. Lastly, Nafaris choose a mate based on both looks and manor. Colorful dances, songs, and romantic gestures are ways to win over the opposite sex. Once a Nafari mates, it stays with that partner for life.
The climate of Hydropolis is temperate to warm with little variation. It tends to get colder during the 15 hour long night the planet experiences. The planet is heated by a nearby star during the day. The planet is covered in freshwater that is crystal clear. The white sandy bottom is followed by a rocky mantle, and finally a volcanic and magnetic core. The precipitation on the planet consists of precious jewels, silver, gold, and platinum. Bioluminescent flowers float through the water and underwater jungles are suspended in the open ocean. Viney plants grow from the ocean floor to the surface of the water. Orbs of light are also seen floating in the currents.
Physical Adaptations Edit
The Nafaris have no fur, but rather slick and scaly skin that provides for little resistance and easy movement around the water. Nafaris posses the unique ability to change the color of their cornea, much like humans change their pupil size. Their corneas darken according the sunlight, like built in sunglasses. The shimmering bottom covered in jewels, plus the natural sunlight would be blinding without this feature. They are also able to keep their eyes open underwater which helps them to understand their surroundings and avoid prey. Nafaris have developed gills to breath underwater. These animals have a diet that consists of mainly fruits, vegetables, and small sponges, which are all full of fiber. Their stomachs have adapted to be able to digest these large amounts of fiber. Some more physical evolutions among this species are their skin, scale, and wing color. All of their features blend in with the watery colors around them. These animals have also developed an immunity to one of their biggest predators’ venom. The venom of the spiked octopus can still occasionally make a Nafari sick, but no longer kills them.
Behavioral Adaptations Edit
Some behavioral adaptations the Nafari have made include the way they learned to fight off predators in packs, to make weapons, and to hide in the forests during fiery volcanic explosions. It is common for a black dragon to prey on a lone Nafari, so many travel in groups now. They have learned to make weapons to defend themselves against predators. Also, volcanic eruptions are frequent, and Nafaris gather in the depths of the forests to take cover. Nafaris also have learned to trade different jewels that fall from their atmosphere, in exchange for food and other necessities.
